COMPOST WORKSHOP
Composting is nature’s way of recycling organic waste!
Happy with the result of yesterday’s work, we’re to share with you some photos from the compost workshop held in Termokiss, where we built helped the community center build their first compost bin from scratch. This involved building the bin with wood supplies and filling it with compostable biomass.
The layers placed in the bin, which were made out of wood pallets, are firstly cardboard at the beginning to inhibit the growth of grass and to pull the edges. Then a layer of fertilizer was added which is rich in nitrogen, straw which is rich in carbon, fallen leaves collected through neighbourhood parks and farms and after each layer, water was added to give it some moisture. All material is placed with the lasagna method.
All this mass will be composted and transformed into a sweet-smelling humus and will be ready for spring planting.
Just a friendly reminder of why composting is important:
- Helps your garden
- Helps you save money
- Helps the environment
