Let’s Talk About Food Waste

is a pilot project that aims to contribute to environmental protection and policy-making in Kosovo by initiating a public dialogue on Food Waste and by piloting innovative solutions for Food Waste reduction in Kosovo. This project is implemented by Fondacioni Jeshil as part of Consortium of Human Rightivism project, financed by the Swedish International Development Agency and managed by Community Development Fund. This project is also supported by the ‘Civil Society programme for Albania and Kosovo’, financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by Kosovar Civil Society Foundation (KCSF) in partnership with Partners Albania for Change and Development (PA).

Implementation period: January 2020 – December 2021.

Main Activities:

Activity 1: Foodshare Platform

This platform aims to pilot an alternative and innovative online-based solution for Food Waste Reduction in Kosovo and establish a tangible space for community engagement, exchange, innovation, and solidarity on Food Waste (Reduction) and environmental sustainability. https://foodsafe.community

Activity 2: Entropy Fest

Environmental Festival for Joint Prosperity – ENTROPY is a multi-day and multi-media event that will take place in Prishtina in order to raise awareness on Food Waste and climate action. Formed as a small festival as part of the ongoing initiative Let’s Talk About Food Waste which aims to launch a public dialogue in Kosovo on the socio-economic, political and environmental impacts of Food Waste. The program of this festival will consist of documentary screenings, public talks and other interactive activities such as performance arts. All these activities are planned to take place in the name of starting a public dialogue on environmental action in Kosovo and beyond.

The overall goal of the Festival is to create a forum of exchange and learning on issues related to responsible consumption and production, environmental sustainability and climate action.

Activity 3: Documentary and awareness-raising campaign

The goal of the video documentary is to educate the public on the socio-economic and environmental impacts of food waste and food waste reduction strategies in Kosovo, including consumer education on correct interpretation of labels for expiration date of food products, food sharing initiatives, composting of food, interviews with relevant individuals and so on, with the aim to promote local action against food waste.

Activity 4: Disco Soup

Disco Soup is a festive, gastronomic and solidarity event that brings different people together in public space to educate and raise awareness on issues related to food waste. The main principles of Disco Soup include use of food intended for waste, implement with volunteers, cook meals with collected food, eat and dance together.

Activity 5: Public Forum Meeting

Showcase the pilot project results to mobilise relevant stakeholders in continued public dialogue around Food Waste and environmental sustainability.
